Mbaise People hold Convention in US

The 2016 Convention of Mbaise indigenes living in the United States will hold between June 30th and July 4th at the Austin Marriott North, Round Rock, Austin, Texas.

The annual convention, which will be chaired by Transport Mogul, Chief Frank Nneji, Chairman/Founder of ABC Transport Plc, will attract over 5000 Mbaise men, women and children living in the US and will feature a Leadership Forum, a Town Hall Meeting, Youth Programs, a Fund Raiser/Gala Night, Board Meeting and Elections into the National Executive offices.

Dr. Obi Nwakanma, Professor of English at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, will deliver the keynote at the Leadership Forum which will feature eminent Mbaise sons and daughters including Brig. Gen. Joe Osuji (rtd), Attorney Placidus Aguwa, a US-based legal practitioner; Professor Edward Oparaoji, a US-based Pharmaceutical industry giant; Engineer Joe Nze Eto, a globally acclaimed Geologist/environmental leader as well as the current Chairman of the World Igbo Congress.

Others are Chief Anogwi Anyanwu, Business Leader/Consultant and former Executive Director of Mainstream Bank of Nigeria; Mr. Austin Onwubiko, Managing Director and CEO of Africana First Publishing Nigeria limited;  Dr. Mrs. Jane Akponye, an Emotional Intelligence specialist and Founder/Executive Director of Eastvale Life Integrated Services based in Los Angeles, California, as well as Dr. Victor A. Nwachuku, a renowned Obstetrics and Gynecology surgeon based in Silver City New Mexico.

Mbaise USA convention is a yearly gathering of Mbaise people resident in the United States, where they fellowship, network, keep the community alive, raise funds for Mbaise development initiatives back home.

The Leadership Forum will be moderated by communications and media expert Emeka Oparah, Vice President of Corporate communications at mobile telecommunications company, Airtel Nigeria, while ace broadcaster and Assistant Director Programs (rtd), Imo Broadcasting Corporation, Chief Joe Ehioma, will be Master Of Ceremonies at this year’s convention.

The Convention has been hosted in Houston, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Dallas, Raleigh/Durham, Newark, Baltimore and is berthing in Austin, the political capital of Texas, which boasts of a high population of Nigerians in general and Mbaise people specifically.

According to the Chairman of Mbaise USA National Convention Planning Committee, Ezeji Alozie A. Aguwa, this year’s convention has been deliberately enriched to feature a leadership forum in recognition of the need to reposition Mbaise in the political economy of Nigeria and identify critical areas that require better attention in ensuring that Mbaise occupies its rightful place in the scheme of things back home and contribute even more than it has already done to the development of Imo State and Nigeria.

Ezeji Aguwa revealed that the Leadership Forum will cover a wide range of topics including: Business, Industry, Political Leadership, Security, Education, Youth Development/Empowerment, Healthcare, as well as Environment and Cultural preservation.

As this year’s convention approaches, the National President of Mbaise USA, Sir Lawrence Osondu, expressed his excitement about the opportunity to build on the successes of yesteryears. According to him, the Local Organizing Committee Chairman, Deacon Chinedu Nwokocha, has worked assiduously in collaboration with the national planning team to ensure a very smooth and colorful convention.
