FG TO GIVE FRESH BAILOUT TO STATES???
Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun |
No way! Are you kidding me? Hold on a second...! Have they fully accounted for the bailout they already got? That should be the best and first step to take. Most of these so called governor have no clue what their job descriptions are beyond the access they have to the purse strings of their states, the pomp and panoply of their office and the preposterous immunity they have on everything (except, of course, on illness and death).
Listen, I don't give a freaking hoot about what "condition(alities)" they are meant to meet before they access the "fresh" (like bailout can be fresh), but please make them render an account of what they have already been given. That's not a BIG ask or task. Or is it?
Provision is better than kiosk, we jocularly say in these parts. Yes. Seriously, prevention is better than care. I'd rather we get the process right than regale me with tales of government officials arrested or jailed for stealing bailout funds few years down the line.
The governors, and indeed government officials, must be made accountable, not just for the public funds in their care but also accountable to the people for the job they were voted to do. Political positions, especially those in Abuja, must be made so unattractive that only accomplished and experienced servant-leaders will ever want to get involved. We have had too many carpet-baggers running things and indeed ruining everything. People should be made to earn the comfort and limelight they enjoy. That's not too much to ask for.
It's time to take care of the little we have, and not carelessly hand it over to common criminals to ply their trade with.
